Lamborhini Gallardo’s outside the showroom at the launch of the new Aventador
Wiggle attended the official Cape Town unveiling of the awe-inspiring new Lamborgini Aventador as the CEO and President of Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann, was in the Mother City to inaugurate the new Cape Town showroom. This automobile has been much talked about in automotive circles, as it is maybe the most ambitious Lamborghini yet, designed to embody the firm’s core values of “uncompromising, extreme, Italian”, and in the words of Stephan Winkelmann, to set the benchmark for supercars for the next decade.
Well there were a fair few Ferrari’s and Bentley’s parked alongside one of our little Mx5’s as the Veuve Cliquot was uncorked. And few would argue that the new Lamborghini creation, named after a famous fighting bull which survived and was granted reprieve for its courage, is a fearsome beast. After plying us with champagne, perhaps in the hope that our chequebooks would be sufficiently loosened to the tune of the 5.7 million rand price tag (I have to admit I didn’t drink quite enough of the nice French stuff for that!), we were treated to a quick fashion show and the official publicity film, followed by the revelation of the beast itself.
If you want to take a trip down to the showroom you can view it in the flesh, as it were, or you can get a taste of it from our iphone clip. It has to be said that as the car’s engines were revved and the noise ripped through the darkened showroom stage it was spine-tingling stuff. Like the fabric of our balmy Thursday evening had just been torn apart and some primal force been loosed upon us. And there it was suddenly inching forward, all geometry and power, all elegance and otherworldliness, one unquestionably very red, very beautiful machine. And yes, yes, yes, I have to admit I wanted one!
So it is very impressive and well worth a look at and many thanks to Lamborghini for inviting Wiggle along. And just to put things in perspective for all things automobile, some comparative specs between this precocious, uncompromising newcomer and the world’s favourite two seater sportscar might be of interest:
